Life and Work with The Sidewalk Singers

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Sidewalk Singers.

Sidewalk Singers was formed by musical couple, Serafia and her partner Dan Kattan at the start of the Covid-19 lockdown. All their tours and gigs were immediately canceled, but they still wanted to continue to entertain, spread joy, and help their community, all while maintaining social distance protocols. Their goal is to provide a fun, safe, and memorable way for people to celebrate their special day during these tough times AND give a portion back to the community and neighbors in need! Sidewalk Singers performs for teachers and hospital workers at a donation only price and donates back a portion of booking costs to two charities. The Noho Arts District Save The Theaters campaign, which goes directly to helping preserving the theaters in the historic Noho Arts District neighborhood and the LA Food Bank. So far, $6,000 has been donated back, and counting!!! Up-to-date donation receipts are posted regularly on their website!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It does get a bit emotional at times which is totally understandable! This year had been a hard year for so many people and we get to hear the stories behind the person receiving a singing telegram. I would be lying if I told you we didn’t get caught up in the moment and choke back tears at times when performing for people!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sidewalk Singers is a Singing Telegram Delivery Service here in LA! It’s just like sending someone flowers, but better! People can book directly through our website where we have an extensive song list. We will come to the front of your home, or the home of a loved one, and perform the songs of your choice from a safe social distance! If it’s a surprise we can coordinate to be sure it’s really special! We will even learn a song for you if it’s not on our song list! And if you don’t live in town, we can create a Virtual Singing Telegram video just for you!!! We spread joy and love to our community through reviving the lost art of singing telegrams!! What sets us apart is we give a portion of booking costs back into our community and post regular updates on our website on our donation progress! So far, we have donated $6000 back to our community! We feel proud to know we are helping others more ways than one! This is how we measure our success!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
This goes for anyone starting any new venture! Stay consistent and believe in yourself! With music, you can’t really go wrong. Music is a sharing experience; even if your performance is only heard by one person, just know you’ve already won!
